“Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn
The 8-Week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course
About MBSR
This evidence-based 8-week programme was created by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, in 1979, in order to help patients suffering from chronic pain.
Since its birth, thousands of people have undertaken the program which has been adopted in many hospitals across the USA and Europe, in the context of integrative medicine.
Is it for me?
Nowadays the MBSR course can be applied to anyone experiencing stress at different levels, both physical and emotional.
How does it work?
Through a series of meditation practices, homework, and sharing experiences, you will become more aware of habitual patterns that lead to negative mental states, and ultimately anxiety and depression.
The course aims to offer tools in order to build new and creative ways to deal with stressors in your life through a series of practices such as:
· Body scan
· Yoga movements
· Walking meditation
· Mindful eating
Benefits
Over the last 30 years an increasing number of scientific studies have demonstrated the efficacy of the MBSR in enhancing the following areas:
Mental health:
· stress
· anxiety
· depression
Physical health:
· pain
· cancer
· heart disease
Relationships:
· family
· work
This is an experiential course that requires commitment and willingness to step out of your comfort zone. The course is not designed for those who are suffering from severe mental health issues or for those who are currently undergoing drastic life changes.
“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi
